NEW DELHI, LONDON, NEW YORK 3 July 2007 -- The Jefferies investment bank today announced the hiring of Hugh Sandeman as a Managing Director in Investment Banking to focus on Jefferies’ activities in India. Mr. Sandeman has more than twenty years of industry experience, most recently as Head of Business Development for India at the London Stock Exchange. Previously, he spent 18 years as an investment banker at Dresdner Kleinwort and Merrill Lynch, specialising in mergers and acquisitions and international equity offerings in New York, Tokyo, London and Frankfurt.
Mr. Sandeman joins the efforts of the India team who are focused on building the Firm’s activities in India; working with the dozen professionals in New Delhi and leveraging the assets of the Jefferies organization to bring corporate finance solutions to Indian companies.
Through its India focused activities, Jefferies has raised over $1 billion in financing for India-based companies over the last 18 months. Building on Jefferies’ established expertise in M&A and the capital markets, the addition of another senior India-focused banker strengthens the Firm’s global capabilities in this dynamic, high growth region.
David Weaver, Head of International Investment Banking at Jefferies, commented:
“Hugh Sandeman’s unique knowledge and relationships in India given his work experience with the LSE are very complementary to Jefferies’ growing efforts in this region. We look forward to building on our emerging reputation as a leading underwriter for growing and mid-sized companies in India and expanding our products and services to these companies.”
Mr. Sandeman added:
“India's rapidly expanding economy presents tremendous opportunities for countless growing and mid-sized companies and investors globally. I look forward to leveraging my insight and perspective to further Jefferies’ position in this market and assisting the Firm’s clients in achieving their objectives.”
Mr. Sandeman joins London-based Jefferies International Limited, a subsidiary of US-based Jefferies Group, Inc. (NYSE: JEF). He will be located in the Firm’s London office, where Jefferies has over 300 investment banking, sales, trading & research and asset management professionals.
