JEFFERIES APPOINTS HEAD OF EUROPEAN CREDIT SALES AND TRADING

Jon Pliner Joins in London

LONDON and NEW YORK, 20 August 2009 - Jefferies today announced the appointment of Jon Pliner as a Managing Director and Head of the European Credit Sales and Trading business. He will be based in London.

Mr. Pliner will be responsible for managing Jefferies' European Credit Trading platform, which includes the sales and trading of investment grade and high yield bonds and loans. He will develop the Firm's Credit Trading business in conjunction with the US-based investment grade and high yield sales and trading teams to accelerate the development of Jefferies' global credit trading activity. As part of this effort, Kenton Jernigan will assume responsibility for sales across the European credit spectrum.

In a joint statement, Tim Cronin, Global Head of Jefferies' Fixed Income Group, and Robert Harteveldt, Chairman of Jefferies' Fixed Income Group, commented: "We are excited to welcome Jon Pliner to Jefferies. Mr. Pliner joins Jefferies from Merrill Lynch, where he was a managing director. In his fifteen years at that firm, he held a variety of leadership roles within the Credit Trading group, including Head of Flow Credit Trading and Head of European Emerging Markets. He received an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a ScB from Brown University.
